International Summer School and Summer Camp for Girls

After a decade of association with Heathfield, I still look forward to all the lessons, trips, sports, parties and festivals.  Most of all, I look forward to seeing familiar faces, both students and staff, as we return year on year.

My first summer at Heathfield could not have been a better experience. From the moment I arrived I felt very welcome and quickly saw that Heathfield is a wonderful place to be – for staff and students alike.

The thing I love most about Heathfield is the welcoming and family-like atmosphere.

What the Summer School Staff Say!

We asked a range of staff to tell us why they like Heathfield and what makes it special for them and for our students.

Teachers

I am a College lecturer during the year but I’ve been teaching at Heathfield for quite a few years now and can sum up, very succinctly, the reason why I keep returning: it’s simply the best-run, most professional and happy language school I’ve taught in.

The girls’ welfare, learning and happiness are paramount, so these are my focus when teaching at Heathfield. I would venture to say that the classes I’ve taught have had a warm, relaxed atmosphere, during which the girls have enjoyed the time, shared experiences with girls from all over the world, but most importantly, learning has taken place! I honestly feel their lives have been enriched by the time spent at the school. From my perspective – and I’m sure these comments are shared across the board – I feel valued and supported. These are vital, especially as a teacher, in order that you are free to teach without unnecessary interference, with respect and appreciation.

Carole

I love working and being at Heathfield because it is exactly the type of place where I would have loved to spend my summers. Staying with your friends and doing art, dance, sports and shows – it’s great fun! The staff and girls do lots of interesting and creative activities which change each year. Heathfield is a beautiful school and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. I really enjoy getting to know people from different places and trying out new things. My absolute favourite part of the experience is the international show- it’s always so exciting and different!

Katie

I was a member of the main school teaching staff and saw how good the summer courses were. I have now worked at Heathfield Summer School for eight years as a member of the teaching and activities staff, and I have always enjoyed the atmosphere and camaraderie. I have been able to teach girls of many different nationalities, as well as be part of a closely-knit teaching staff. My career has certainly been enhanced as a result of my experiences at Heathfield.

Activities, Office and Pastoral Staff

I worked in main school and had a sneak peek at the summer courses and activities and thought this was fun for the students and also the staff. The friendships that are made which make girls and staff come back are so important and they become part of our lives. I am a programmer now and I only have 21 days holiday in my ‘real’ job and the fact I take 15 of them each summer to come back to Heathfield says it all.

Igor, IT Coordinator

The Heathfield staff are for me what make the four weeks just so special for everyone. There is always a Heathfield family feel, and this clearly rubs off on the girls we’re looking after and is one of the reasons why so many girls return to Heathfield each summer. The staff provide a home away from home and put on a fantastic variety of activities to help the girls not only have fun, but make friends – just as the staff do.  I have had great support from the senior team and made many friendships with other members of staff throughout the years.

Andrew, Activities staff

My experience at Heathfield has been extremely enjoyable and I was lucky enough to return for five years in a row. Working within the office team meant that I was at the core of the course and it gave me an insight into how well everything is run by the senior team. My roles gave me great work experience and had a positive impact on my CV and personal development.

Heathfield is a great place for students and staff to mix with many different cultures and personalities. When I first joined the Summer School team I was warmly welcomed and I would look forward to it every year. I have made many friends from my time working at Heathfield and will be back to visit this year!

Emily, Financial Assistant

I’ve been coming to Heathfield for several years now and it is a big part of my life. I started as a student and have now returned as staff for several years. The summer school helped me gain proficiency in English and it is part of the reason why I decided to study the language at university. Summers at Heathfield are a wonderful experience and I always look forward to returning.
