Summer Camp Sample Activities Programme

2020 Weekly Highlights

I can’t believe what you achieve with these girls every week and every year, all the things they bring home, the shows and the exhibitions – amazing!

I enjoy every activity because we can use our creative minds, do lots of sports and have fun.

Jam, 10

I loved Mystery Night as it was different and required lots of teamwork. It was also good that we got to explore the school!

Summer Camp Activities

Daily Activities

Summer Camp offers a daily programme of art, crafts, photography, cookery, drama, music, floristry, hair and beauty and a whole range of field, water and racquet sports. The programme is designed so that girls are grouped together by age; it varies throughout the four-week period and not all activities are available each week.

Each year we have a Summer Camp theme on which groups are based and these also run through into some of our Shows and Exhibitions. Themes have included famous women, film titles, the decades, dance styles and girl bands.

In addition to all the small group activities, we get the girls involved in whole-school events which will give them a new range of experiences while working together, having fun and developing new skills. Our Festival Afternoons, where staff offer a range of different themed activities, and Summer Camp Shows and Exhibitions, in which girls create their own performances or display their artistic talents, are extremely popular with the students.

By the end of her stay at Heathfield, a summer student might have baked a chocolate brownie, made soap, done a somersault on the trampoline, created a beautiful flower arrangement, played cricket, tried Irish or hip hop dancing, worn her own fashion creations on the cat-walk, produced a painting on glass, learned how to roll a kayak and enjoyed a relaxing hour of yoga!

Private tennis coaches offer individual lessons on site and horse riding is available at our local stables.

Evening and Weekend Activities

In addition to all the sports and arts and crafts, there are also big school events such as quizzes, discos, the mystery evening, a House basketball competition and Scottish or English country dancing. The Big Conversation, Question Time and Film Club are wonderful cross-cultural events and our Chill Out Room offers an informal setting for girls to relax, chat, play games and read magazines. Boarding students also enjoy taking part in our many International Shows.

Staffing and Facilities

Heathfield’s Summer Camp Activities Director is a very experienced teacher and sports coach at both primary and secondary levels. She is assisted by an Arts and Entertainment Coordinator and an Art Coordinator and together they lead a team of more than 20 staff – sports teachers, coaches and pool life guards as well as trained artists and dancers, superb cooks and talented musicians and actors. Private tennis coaches offer individual lessons on site and horse riding is available at our local stables.
